Hi Ho the Merry-O, to Joisey I Will Go ...
Some of you have been following the wine, women, and song of @murisopsis as she's been on her business trip.
I too, am about to heading out of town for a business trip. Whereas she went to glamorous Minnahsoota, I will be leaving Michigan for the equally exotic paradise of New Joisey. I really don't know too much about Jersey, save that many of the residents speak about where they live in relation to an Interstate Exit. I'm not mocking that - I discovered Michiganders (weird name, in and of itself) use their hand for the same purpose:

New Jersey has been in the news quite a bit, lately. Here is what I know -
I do know that they just endured Superstorm Sandy:

The Governor Christi flip-flop on love-hate President Obama:

A small earthquake:

And a little nor'easter visit from Old Man Winter:

As for me, I'll be spending most of my time at the Hope Creek Nuclear Power Plant, helping them with a Training Department self-assessment. All of our nuclear sites do periodic reviews of our training programs. We invite peers from other sites to help, so that we have eyes from outside the organization taking a look at how we do business. This will be my first assessment as an Operations Instructor, so I look forward to seeing how another facility runs that part of their training program.
However, I'm told that the site "will provide all your meals." Hmmm ... can you say KFC and Pizza Hut while poring over procedures and lesson plans? I did call the local Hampton Inn and verified I still have a reservation. So I guess the hotel has survived. If not, I'm sure the Hope Creek people would give me a refugee cot.
Even if I DO get away from the nuke plant ... here's a picture from the Salem, NJ homepage:

Um ... yeah. I'm not sure what that's all about.
I'll there for most of next week. Keep your eye on the news.
Val, we need to rethink our business trip plans.

Oh do be careful. I will lift travel mercy prayers for you. Take a camera and perhaps share of your experience when you return. Will you get a rental car to be able to experience a bit of the state other than the hotel and the power plant? I hope so. There's a saying that 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.'
That last photo may be proof of the rumor that the banks are starting their own political party, to give us a third choice also owned by them.
Well, I have to say that this post probably just doubled or tripled my knowledge of New Jersey.
Maybe that's a sign directing people to a greased pig catching competition?
I'd strongly suggest taking a good bottle of Scotch, a good book, and a .357 Magnum.
Say hi to Governor Christi for us.
There's a bag of Snickers leftover from Halloween I've been saving for you to take on this trip. A bag of Snickers will get you through anything.
Travel safe -- and don't take them any more storms!
@Crystalinne - I will have a car rental. I hope a geocache and a historic site might fit into the week. We'll see.
@saturnnights - THAT was one of the wittiest observations I've seen in a very long time! Well done!
@mrcolorful - If the grease ends up in the frying pan with bacon. I'm all for it.
@Such_are_you - After a day of parsing and harrumphing over nuclear training documentation, I think all three would work for both the work and the location.
@TheTheologiansCafe - I think he's subs your site; I'll let him know I've met you personally, so he can be jealous.
@saintvi - Snickers satisfies. OMG - did I just advertise?
@slmret - Thanks! And I'm all for no more storms. New Jersey isn't a locale where I hope to be stranded.
maybe the pig and star are pointing to a great bbq place - that would go nicely with the snickers - safe travels and happy geoing!
Aww I wish I had read this when it was posted. Being a native new jersian (and most people in new jersey do NOT say joisey, actually New Yorkers are more likely to pronounce it like that) I have to say that there are some really awesome things about Jersey, and some really cool stuff you could have seen! And the people here aren't as bad as they make us out to be-maybe a different sense of humor but ultimately lots of good people!
edit: I also feel the need to point out that only 1 cast member on the Jersey Shore is actually from New Jersey. When I tell people I'm from Jersey I almost always have to talk about that show, and that is my defense!
@IdioticWisdoms - All the people I met were good folks. And, I didn't really notice much of a pronounced accent, just as you said. However, I was at the nuclear plant nearly the entire time, so I can't say I experienced much of the culture.
